Pray for Unity
There are no proscriptions in the bible that might give
reason for any Christian church not to be working with
other Christian churches of different denominations in
matters relating to help for the legitimate poor, the
sick, the lonely, the blind, the lame, prisoners, widows,
and children. Indeed we are called to do all we can for
the legitimate needy if we will call ourselves Christian.
So often Jesus Christ taught His disciples to meet people
at their point of need: Feed the hungry, care for the
ill and the weak, care for children, comfort the distressed,
clothe the naked, visit the prisoners, love our neighbors,
and more - and let it be now - not tomorrow. Here's just
a little bit of what scripture tells us about how to think
and what to say and do about "these the least of
my brethren".
1 John 3:18
Ephesians 4:11-13
Mark 12:30-31
Luke 10:28-37
God reads our hearts. He sees us come and He sees us
go. We read these scriptures and we want to do something
about it. We want to make a difference. We feel challenged
- unfortunately, not for long. The problem is just too
immense - what good are these puny efforts of mine? Discouragement
takes hold and poverty wins. The same is true for the
Church. What can this little church of ours do against
the enormity of the problem? Truth is, the little we are
able to do as individuals and as individual church bodies
is in fact doing well, but the good of it is not readily
visible. We can't see the good against the enormity of
the condition. Again, the look of "nothing happening"
turns into discouragement and soon it is a fact - nothing
is happening - that is, nothing regarding our individual
call to serve the legitimate poor in our communities.
In this picture we can see the value of Church Care, the
central clearing house. We are not making a visible difference,
going our separate ways, but together we - the Church
in Indianapolis - can make a huge difference.
Do you know that, by the numbers, the Church in Indianapolis
is by far the largest and potentially the most powerful
entity in our city? Who can see us as that? We are so
divided and apart from one another; the world sees only
our apartness. There is no better way to show a unity
in our local Church than to be seen as one - together
and faithful in this one, but all important command -
responding in the name of Christ to the needs of the legitimate
poor.
Church Care is a facilitator. Church Care has no need for a
public presence. The public presence must be the Church
in Indianapolis - not Church Care. Church Care, in all our policy,
attempts to make the Church, where in lives Christ Jesus
our Lord and Savior, visible to the world around us. The
power to make things change is in Christ’s Church, working
as one body in this one thing - serving the legitimate
poor and needy in the name of Christ. It cannot happen
without prayer. Will you pray for Church Care?
How can you best help Church Care in prayer? We need you.
We need your participation in specific targeted prayer.
Use our contact form to make
known your willingness to pray for us and with us. We
are interested in receiving your comments regarding how
we can link up for purposes of praying over “our
Mission, our Vision, our Purpose”; that our local
churches might come alive in love and service to the legitimate
poor and needy; that the unparalleled power of Christ’s
love, in and through His Church, be made surely visible
to the unbelieving world. That’s how the world was changed
in the early centuries of the Church. That’s how the Church
can change the world again. We beg the power of your prayer.
